Y1 - 2021/08/01 UR - //www.qdcxjkg.com/content/58/2/2100336.abstract N2 - Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) is an evidence-based treatment for patients developing acute respiratory failure due to an exacerbation of COPD [1]. NIV has proven to reduce work of breathing, enhance gas exchange, reduce the length of hospital stay and to reduce the risk of endotracheal intubation and mortality, regardless of whether NIV is applied within the intensive care unit (ICU) or on the pulmonary ward [1–3]. NIV is therefore recommended to serve as a first-line intervention in patients with acute hypercapnic respiratory failure due to an exacerbation of their COPD.The study of Hartley designed an easy-to-use score to predict mortality in noninvasively ventilated COPD patients. More information about NIV is gained, but the exact measures on how to improve NIV in clinical practice remains uncertain. https://bit.ly/3tFfg8F ER -
